The over 1.8 million members of the Faith & Freedom Coalition support Israel in their natural and God-given right of self-governance and self-defense upon their own lands.

In Florida, HB 741 (passed in 2019), prohibits discrimination on the basis of religion. It requires educational institutions to treat discrimination motivated by anti-Semitic intent the same as discrimination motivated by race. The bill provides that, for the purposes of the anti-Semitism provision, anti-Semitism includes:

A certain perception of the Jewish people, which may be expressed as hatred toward Jewish people.
Rhetorical and physical manifestations of anti-Semitism directed toward a person, his or her property, or toward Jewish community institutions or religious facilities.

The bill provides examples of anti-Semitism, such as calling for, aiding, or justifying the killing or harming of Jews in the name of a radical ideology or an extremist view of religion. Other illustrations contained in the bill include:

  • Accusing Jews, as a people or the State of Israel, of inventing or exaggerating the Holocaust.
  • Accusing Jewish citizens of being more loyal to Israel, or the alleged priorities of Jews worldwide, rather than to the interests of their own nations.
  • Applying a double standard to Israel by requiring behavior of Israel that is not expected or demanded of any other democratic nation, or focusing peace or human rights investigations only on Israel. Delegitimizing Israel by denying the Jewish people their right to self-determination and by denying Israel the right to exist.

The actions taken by the Florida legislature and Governor Ron DeSantis comport with the principles of the Florida Faith and Freedom Coalition and the Christian community in the United States.

Christians have a long history of solidarity with the people of Israel and it is imperative that the U.S. government continue its support. There is no greater proof of God’s sovereignty in the world today than the survival of the Jews and the existence of Israel. This truth explains in part why Christians and other conservative people of faith stand so firmly in their support of Israel.

Americans support for Israel derives from the simple fact that its land is the cradle of both Judaism and Christianity. However, as a practical matter, Israel is the only genuine democracy in the Middle East and remains one of the most reliable allies of the United States. The shared democratic values and common strategic interests of Israel and the United States make our advocacy for Israel and the Jewish people a matter of critical importance.
